The Magnolia Transformation

Tenhulzen Painting was selected over 3 others as the contractor to execute the transformation of this
beautiful Magnolia home. The homeowners worked with a local interior designer to coordinate a palette
of bold and complimentary colors that resulted in stunning contrasts. The project was expected to take
260 man hours to complete and encompassed a complete exterior and interior repaint. The designer
and client chose to use Benjamin Moore paints throughout the interior and exterior of the home.

Our clients were taking a dream vacation to South Africa during the project and had concerns about
the security of their home during painting and minor remodeling in their absence. As with all of our
clients, we assured the homeowner that we take complete care in making sure that the proper lockup
procedures take place every day. We came up with a system that met their needs to ensure they had
peace of mind.

The interior repainting of the home took the majority of our budgeted hours as there was 11 bold
interior colors chosen in addition to the 3 exterior colors. One year later, the couple was expecting their
first child and we were asked to return to transform the nursery, adding 2 new colors to the interior
palette.

The living room walls are painted with Benjamin Moore’s Bed of Ferns color, part of their classic colors
collection and the accent wall is done in Fairview Taupe. In addition, the owners had commissioned a
builder to custom build and install this fireplace surround/cabinet unit. Tenhulzen painting prepared,
primed and painted the unit using satin Impervo Enamel for the finish coats, providing a superior glass
like finish. The biggest challenge in this newer home was the protecting of all of the flooring and the
moving and protection of furniture. Photos were taken of each room so that when putting furniture and
pictures back, our crew knew exactly where everything was to be replaced.

The dining room is stunning and unusual in that the ceiling is painted Onondaga Clay, the main walls
Byzantine Gold and the columns, Bed of Ferns creating a prominent focal point.

The exterior body of the house including soffits and eves were painted Cottage Red, the garage door
was painted Dragons Breath, the garage door trim was painted Black and window and door frames,
fascia, trim, and belly band were painted Brilliant White. As you can see, the selection of colors show off
the lines of the house in a way that makes the architecture stand out with a true cottage feel.
